Destinations: Forni di Sopra-Varmost ski area

Ski area Forni di Sopra-Varmost

The ski area Varmost-Davost, located in Forni di Sopra, is surrounded by the imposing Dolomites of Friuli. It is a well equipped and never crowded resort offering leisure and sport to suit all tastes: Alpine and cross-country skiing, ski mountaineering and ice climbing, a wide range of other sports and a playground.

If you choose the ski area Varmost-Davost you will spend pleasant days on the skis, far from the crowds and surrounded by nature and quietness. The resort is divided in two sections: Davost and Varmost. Davost, on the valley floor, has easy ski runs for children and beginners, and a practice slope equipped with ski lifts, moving sidewalk and ski run for ski club competitions, where lessons with the instructors take place. Here you find also the winter playground Fantasy Snow Park, a closed and safe area with colored toys, tunnels and trampolines, where kids can jump and have fun, go sledding or make snowmen.

On higher altitudes, Varmost has exciting and more difficult ski runs for experts, the longest and with the biggest vertical drop of the region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, with lift facilities reaching the 2100 meters of Monte Crusicalas, where you can enjoy a 360 degree view on the surrounding peaks. The resort offers always perfectly groomed and snow covered ski runs, thanks to a snowmaking system working on the whole area, but also refreshment stands and ski hire shops.

Cross-country skiing lovers find in the center of Saviela the perfect training ground: the several trails, one of which is floodlit, are always snow covered thanks to a snowmaking system, and are suitable for both experts and beginners, with challenging ascents and descents. Winter in Forni means also ski mountaineering: its valleys and inaccessible canyons are explored by skiers looking for a closer contact with nature. A few dozen routes run through the area, ranging from easy tours to the local shepherd's huts to the more technical ascents. During the winter season the resort hosts an important ski mountaineering event: the Ski Krono Varmost.

More than skiing

Besides skiing, the ski area Varmost-Davost offers the chance to practice many other winter activities: ice skating, sledding, paragliding, swimming in the indoor swimming pool, snowshoeing and Nordic Walking, where you have the chance to visit also the local shepherd's huts. If you want to try ice climbing, you have at your disposal a facility equipped with climbing walls, where classes take place, and the natural ice walls near the streams Rovadia and Tolina.
