A two‑day itinerary in the heart of the Cevedale Group, surrounded by high‑altitude landscapes, alpine lakes and the majestic peaks of Vioz, Palon de la Mare and Rosole. A perfect route for those who want to experience the Stelvio National Park in all its richness, combining nature, history and wide open spaces.
Day One – From Peio Paese to Rifugio Larcher al Cevedale
The hike begins in Peio Paese (1,579 m). The trail climbs towards Dosso di San Rocco, where you join trail no. 105 towards Rifugio Mantova al Vioz. Reaching the area of Gaggio, near the ENEL building, you turn onto trail no. 127, which traverses the mountainside for a long stretch along a scenic and steady path.
The route leads to the Malga Mare hydroelectric plant, which can also be reached by car from Cogolo (10 km) for those wishing to shorten the stage. From here, follow trail no. 102, climbing towards Pian Venezia and then continuing up to Rifugio Larcher al Cevedale (2,608 m), the destination of the first day.
Day Two – Lake Circuit and Return to Peio
From the hut, take trail no. 123, which climbs into the upper glacial basins and begins the beautiful Lake Circuit. Along the way you encounter:
- Lago delle Marmotte
- Lago Lungo
- Lago Nero
- Lago Careser, an artificial reservoir set among the rocks
After skirting the Careser, trail 123 descends with a series of switchbacks towards Malga Mare, where it reconnects with the outward route. From here, the return to Peio Paese is straightforward.
