Located in a charming basin at 1,903 metres of altitude, at the end of the Barco valley, in the territory of Ossana in the Val di Sole, this small alpine lake can be reached in about three hours of walking from Fucine, passing Pian delle Poia, Baito Battisti and Mandra di Barco.
The Lake Barco lies in a glacial basin surrounded by alpine pastures, larch woods and gentle slopes that open towards the peaks of the Val di Sole. There are no mountain huts, bars or facilities here: just nature. The lake collects the meltwater from the snowfields above and gives rise to a small outflow stream that descends through a notch on the north‑western side. It is partly surrounded by a fir forest reflected in its clear waters, where alpine char can often be found.
