The Wine and Flavours Route from Lake Garda to the Brenta Dolomites is an itinerary that captures the most authentic essence of western Trentino. Along a single route, travellers cross remarkably diverse landscapes: from the Mediterranean climate of Lake Garda, with its olive groves and lemon houses, to the alpine atmosphere of the Brenta Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Along the way, visitors encounter historic villages, fairy‑tale castles, ancient chapels and the evocative pile‑dwelling site of Fiavé, which can be explored on foot, by bike or on horseback.
A land of water and wellbeing
The route touches places dedicated to natural wellness, such as the renowned Comano Thermal Baths, famous for the dermatological properties of their waters, and the wellness areas of Val Rendena, surrounded by forests and mountain scenery.
Signature wines: Nosiola and Vino Santo
Two outstanding wines stand out along the Route:
- Nosiola, the only native white grape variety of Trentino, known for its delicate hazelnut aroma
- Vino Santo Trentino DOC, a precious dessert wine made from dried grapes and aged for years in small barrels
These wines tell the story and traditions of the Valle dei Laghi, one of the region’s most renowned wine‑growing areas.
A mosaic of flavours along the Sarca River
The Route follows the course of the Sarca River, from its source in the heart of the Adamello‑Brenta Nature Park to its mouth on Lake Garda. It is a journey through a rich variety of agricultural landscapes that give life to unique local products:
- Storo yellow cornmeal, the base of the traditional polenta of the Valle del Chiese
- the sweet and juicy Dro plum
- Giudicarie potatoes
- Bleggio walnuts, used in traditional desserts
- Ciuìga del Banale, a unique Slow Food salami
- Garda Trentino extra virgin olive oil, one of the northernmost in the world
Other flavours complete this culinary landscape: Spressa delle Giudicarie DOP, carne salada, chestnuts, trout in its various preparations, Torbole broccoli, Santa Massenza broccoli, and the kiwi of the Lower Sarca Valley.
The Wine and Flavours Route from Lake Garda to the Brenta Dolomites is an experience that blends nature, culture and gastronomy. It is ideal for travellers who enjoy discovering a region slowly, tasting authentic products and experiencing landscapes that change at every turn.
