Mount Sella di Sennes

Starting from Rifugio Sennes (2126 m), the hike to Monte Sella di Sennes immediately opens onto a wide, bright alpine landscape. The trail climbs gently toward Rifugio Munt de Senes (2116 m), surrounded by rolling pastures and soft alpine contours. From here, you follow trail no. 27, the normal route leading to the summit.

The path continues across grassy ridges and high‑altitude meadows, eventually reaching the most distinctive section of the hike: the scree slope on the right side of the peak, crossed diagonally by the trail. It’s a short but scenic passage, perfect for pausing and admiring the vast Sennes Plateau, which unfolds below like a mosaic of meadows, basins, and gentle ridges.

Once past the stretch of loose gravel—requiring a bit of attention—the terrain becomes stable and comfortable again. The final meters wind through grassy terraces and alpine pastures, leading to the summit cross of Monte Sella di Sennes (2787 m).

From the top, the panorama is extraordinary: the view sweeps across the Ahrn Alps, the Olang Dolomites, the Puster Valley, and the unmistakable silhouette of Plan de Corones. A natural terrace perfect for enjoying the silence and vastness of the Dolomite landscape.

How to reach Rifugio Sennes from San Vigilio di Marebbe

From San Vigilio di Marebbe, follow the road up the Rudo Valley for about 11 km until you reach Rifugio Pederù. Beyond the traffic restriction, the gravel road splits: take the left fork, which climbs steeply in tight switchbacks over a rocky step.

Once at the charming Rifugio Fodara Vedla, continue along the dirt road and turn left at the junction, following signs for Rifugio Sennes. The conifer forest gradually gives way to expanses of mountain pine and the first views of the surrounding peaks, including Sas dla Para, Piccola Croda Rossa, and the majestic Croda del Becco.
