From 10 to 20 September 2026, Transart, the South Tyrolean festival for contemporary culture, returns to Bolzano and other locations across the region. For 11 days, the festival brings together music, theatre, dance, performance and visual arts, transforming industrial sites, production spaces and everyday places into settings for artistic experimentation.
The 26th edition takes place across 13 venues, with events in Bolzano, Cortaccia, Silandro, Brunico, Lana and Egna, inviting audiences to experience contemporary art beyond traditional cultural spaces.
Highlights of Transart 2026
The festival opens on 10 September at Ex-Masten in Bolzano with CRASH, an evening of experimental music and audiovisual art featuring the Haydn Orchestra conducted by Vimbayi Kaziboni, pianist Ning Yu, and works by Simon Steen-Andersen, Michael Gordon and Bill Morrison.
On 11 September, Ukrainian collective Opera Aperta presents the Italian premiere of Mōdraniht. Songs of Winter War, a performance exploring the relationship between art, conflict and collective memory.
The programme continues with concerts, performances and film screenings, including Sátántangó by Béla Tarr, as well as new works by artists such as Fernando Strasnoy, Gaetano Palermo, Michele Petrosino, Thom Luz and Romeo Castellucci.
On 17 September, the festival presents a rich programme featuring Credere alle Maschere by Romeo Castellucci, Japanese drumming by Masa-Daiko, and the contemporary flamenco projects of Rocío Márquez, Paula Comitre and Los Voluble.
On 19 September, choreographer and performer Florentina Holzinger returns to Bolzano with ALPEN ÉTUDE, a project exploring the body, space and representation in dialogue with the South Tyrolean landscape.
The festival closes on 20 September in Egna with The Sanatorium of Soft Gravity by Manuel Zwerger, combining installation, concert and theatrical composition.
Kids Culture Club and Transart Postludium
Transart also continues its collaboration with Kids Culture Club, offering activities for children and teenagers, including the TAIKO workshop for young people aged 11 to 16.
The 2026 programme continues beyond September with the Transart Postludium on 29 November at NOI Techpark in Bolzano. American artist Patti Smith returns to the festival after 16 years with Words and Music – Where Francis Walked, an acoustic performance combining songs, poetry and reflections inspired by Saint Francis of Assisi.
