This lake took shape after the construction of S. Caterina dam. So part of Auronzo di Cadore country had been flooded modifying deeply the landscape, which certainly looks better now and has increased the presence of tourists in the summer period.
There is an important date in the life of Auronzo, which marks a transformation of its territory: 1930, the year when the construction of the dam started, obstructing the course of the river Ansieri and giving origin to an artificial lake 2 km long.
