Circular Hike around Sasso Putia | Sas de Pütia

The circular hike around Sasso Putia is one of the most scenic routes in the Isarco Valley, a panoramic trail that encircles the entire Sas de Pütia massif, crossing high‑altitude pastures, traditional mountain huts and offering spectacular views of the UNESCO Dolomites.

The route starts at Passo delle Erbe (1,998 m), easily reached from Luson, Bressanone and Val Badia. From here, follow trail 8A, which climbs gently southwards along an alpine road until it reaches Ütia Fornela (2,067 m). The landscape opens immediately onto the wide Putia meadows, especially beautiful during the alpine flowering season.

Continuing to the right, trail 8 crosses the western slopes of Sasso Putia, between meadows and scree, until it reaches the gully leading to Forcella Putia. Here, following trail 4, the path climbs in easy switchbacks to the highest point of the hike: the saddle at 2,357 m, a natural balcony with a 360° view over the Dolomites.

The descent on the eastern side follows the alpine road of trail 35, crossing the vast Putia pastures and reaching the welcoming Ütia Vaciara (2,110 m). Alternating between dirt road and footpath, the route continues to Göma Saddle (2,111 m), where the return begins.

Trail 8B descends westwards beneath the impressive north face of Sasso Putia, reaching Ütia de Göma. From here, the route returns to Ütia Fornela and then back to Passo delle Erbe, completing one of the most iconic loops in the Dolomites.

The entire hike unfolds within the Puez‑Odle Nature Park, an area of extraordinary geological and scenic interest. The Putia massif, with its imposing shapes and dolomitic layers, is one of the most fascinating examples of Alpine geology. The nearby Moibach Gorge also offers unique glimpses into the pre‑Dolomite landscape.
