Hike to Guardia, the Painted Village

An ideal excursion for families and relaxed walkers, combining the freshness of the Alpe Cimbra forests with the charm of the painted village of Guardia, passing crystal‑clear streams and the spectacular Hofentol waterfall. The loop route starts and ends in Folgaria Sud, following well‑marked trails rich in scenic viewpoints.

The walk begins in Folgaria Sud and immediately enters the Gon Forest, a dense spruce woodland that accompanies the first kilometres of the hike. Along the way you encounter small streams and cascades fed by the Rio Cavallo and Rio Mous, creating a cool and pleasant atmosphere even on warmer days.

Continuing along the trail, the sound of water announces the arrival at the Hofentol Waterfall, one of the most iconic spots on the Alpe Cimbra. The water plunges between rocky walls and moss‑covered surfaces, creating a fresh, dramatic setting that fascinates both adults and children.

From the waterfall, the path climbs towards the Dos del Stock, a panoramic viewpoint offering wide vistas over the forests and the hamlets of Folgaria. It’s an ideal place for a break, surrounded by the silence of the mountains.

The final stretch leads to the village of Guardia, famous for its murals that decorate the house façades and narrate local stories, traditions and legends. Walking through the village feels like exploring an open‑air art gallery where nature and creativity blend harmoniously.

The return to Folgaria Sud follows an easy, well‑marked trail, completing a loop rich in variety and charm.
