This varied and rather demanding hike starts from the Olang 1+2 cable car valley station in Gassl, at about 1,170 meters. Just before the lift, you take trail no. 3, which leads into the forest. After crossing a paved road, the marked path continues uphill with numerous switchbacks. Along the ascent you pass the Oberegger Alm and the Lorenzi Hut, both perfect for a break. From here the route continues to the cable car mid‑station, where you follow the Corones circular trail to the right, leading up to the summit of Plan de Corones at 2,275 meters.
At the top there are several mountain huts and two museums worth visiting: the LUMEN – Museum of Mountain Photography and the MMM Corones – Messner Mountain Museum, which explores the age‑old relationship between humans and mountains.
Those who prefer a more relaxed approach can reach the summit directly by the Olang 1+2 cable car and follow the route downhill to Gassl.
From Bolzano, take the Brenner Motorway (A22) to the Bressanone/Val Pusteria exit, then continue on the SS49‑E66 state road for about 50 km to Valdaora (Olang).
