Forra del Lupo

The Forra del Lupo, known by the Austro-Hungarians as Wolfsschlucht, is one of the most fascinating hikes in Alpe Cimbra, Trentino. The trail follows a long World War I trench, carved into the rock and featuring military positions, observation posts, shelters and short tunnel sections.

The route starts in Serrada, a hamlet of Folgaria, and reaches Forte Dosso delle Somme, with spectacular views over Terragnolo Valley and Mount Pasubio.

From Serrada to Forra del Lupo

The hike starts in Cógola, Serrada. After an initial section through the forest, you reach the first World War I trenches and military positions.

The trail continues towards the rocky walls of the Forra, where you walk directly through the former trench. Along the way you pass steps, shelters and observation posts, while the views gradually open up over Terragnolo Valley and Mount Pasubio.

The route then reaches locality Caserme, where you can either return to Serrada or continue towards Forte Dosso delle Somme.

Forte Dosso delle Somme and return

To reach Forte Dosso delle Somme, also known as Werk Serrada, you can follow the former military road or choose the more challenging and scenic route over Dosso Smelzar, including a short tunnel section.

From the fort, you can return via SAT 136, passing near Rifugio Baita Tonda before descending towards Serrada.

Panoramic views from Forra del Lupo

One of the highlights of this hike is the scenery. From the area around Forte Dosso delle Somme, the view stretches across Mount Pasubio, Terragnolo Valley and, on clear days, towards Adamello and Presanella, Mount Stivo and the Brenta Dolomites.

The Forra del Lupo is an ideal route for combining hiking, nature and World War I history, while discovering a less-known corner of Trentino.
