In view of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games, Castel Pergine hosts the exhibition “SNOW AND HOSPITALITY. Tourism and skiing in the shadow of Castel Pergine”, an original exhibition that tells the story of the birth of skiing and tourist hospitality in the Valsugana region.
The exhibition project explores winter sports and life during the winter season through the recovery of historical memories, pioneering practices and unpublished documents that testify to the earliest skiing experiences right near the castle. Central to the narrative is also one of the area’s first hotel entrepreneurial initiatives: Burg Persen, an emblematic example of Trentino’s emerging tourist vocation.
Through historical images, ethnographic objects, archival documents and themed paintings by Gianluigi Rocca, Tomaso Marcolla and Edoardo Orrasch, the exhibition guides visitors in discovering both the history of the castle and the ancient traditions of the Pergine area. The exhibition is hosted on the second floor of the Palazzo Baronale, where history comes to life through an engaging and evocative exhibition path.
Curated by Annamaria Azzolini and Silvia Spada, the exhibition also includes related events and in-depth conferences. It has been made possible thanks to the collaboration of scholars, institutions and private citizens who have contributed historical materials and objects, transforming a local story into shared memory.
The initiative is part of the provincial cultural project “Combinazioni_caratteri sportivi”, promoted by the Department of Culture of the Autonomous Province of Trento, and is included in the programme of the Milano Cortina 2026 Cultural Olympiad. The exhibition is organised in collaboration with METS – Museo Etnografico Trentino San Michele.
