The Giro dei Forti is one of the most fascinating trekking routes on the Alpe Cimbra, a circular trail that crosses the symbolic sites of the First World War. The itinerary follows the line of the seven Austro‑Hungarian fortresses which, from Cima Vézzena to Dosso delle Somme, formed the historic defensive barrier of the plateaus. Walking here means immersing yourself in a landscape where history, nature and spectacular views over the Terragnolo valley and the Pasubio massif blend seamlessly—areas that remain popular destinations for thrilling excursions even today.
During the summer months, it is advisable to bring a hat and plenty of water, as much of the route unfolds in open, sunny terrain.
The trek touches some of the most representative places of the Alpe Cimbra, combining nature, history and panoramic viewpoints:
- Rosspach stream, flowing through forests and alpine clearings
- Martinella fir forest, one of the area’s green lungs
- Forte Dosso delle Somme, one of the most imposing Austro‑Hungarian fortifications
- Panoramic views over the Terragnolo valley and the Pasubio massif
- Forte Sommo Alto, perfectly integrated into the high‑altitude landscape
- Echen biotope, a protected natural area of great environmental value
- Sanctuary of Madonna delle Grazie, a place of spirituality and local tradition
