Cultural and Scenic Hike

The Cultural Hike is an itinerary that combines nature, history, and tradition. The walk begins along the narrow and evocative gorge of the Rio Verde, a cool and wild environment that leads to the majestic Schöneck Castle, perched on a rocky spur and guardian of ancient legends. Not far away stands a unique and rare spruce tree, declared a natural monument, rising skyward like a slender column, symbol of strength and longevity.

From the castle hill, the route follows the ancient pilgrims’ path leading to the Gothic chapel of Hasenried. According to tradition, a sacred spring once flowed here, believed to bring relief to pilgrims suffering from eye ailments, making this a place of devotion and hope.

The hike continues along the Pfaffensteig trail, crossing gentle farmlands until reaching Falzes, where the idyllic Issengo Lake awaits. This charming body of water, surrounded by greenery, is a natural paradise and the perfect spot for a relaxing break.

Nearby, visitors can explore the renowned Bergila herb garden, a true botanical treasure preserving ancient knowledge of medicinal plants. A little further on, the hike offers another highlight: the mountain pine oil distillery, where tradition and nature blend into a unique sensory experience. Along the Rio Verde, a fresh resting area scented with resin provides the perfect conclusion to this cultural walk.

For those wishing to round off the experience with local flavors, excellent dining options are available along the way: Ristorante Schöneck, Hotel Lago d’Issengo, and Ristorante Irenberg.
