Wine and Flavours Route of the Piana Rotaliana

In the heart of Trentino, where the Adige River shapes a bright plain between mountains and small villages, stretches the Piana Rotaliana, a landscape that accompanies travelers from Roverè della Luna all the way to Zambana. It’s a harmonious scenery of vineyards, orchards, and charming towns rich in tradition, crossed by the Wine and Flavours Route of the Piana Rotaliana, an itinerary that invites visitors to slowly discover the authentic aromas and tastes of this land.

The undisputed star is the Teroldego Rotaliano D.O.C., the renowned red wine often described as the prince of Trentino wines. Born from native grapes and deeply connected to the alluvial soil of the Campo Rotaliano, it was the first wine in Trentino to receive the Controlled Designation of Origin in 1971. Alongside it shine other local excellences such as Trento D.O.C. Metodo Classico, with its elegant bubbles, and Pinot Grigio, grown especially around Roverè della Luna and recognizable by its copper‑skinned grapes.

Spring brings another specialty: the white asparagus of Zambana, incredibly tender and naturally fiber‑free, cultivated according to a tradition dating back to the 19th century. Harvested strictly by hand from late March to late May, it follows a precise set of rules that protect its quality and authenticity, making it one of the most prized products of the area.

Beyond the vineyards, the landscape is filled with the scent of apple orchards, especially around Nave San Rocco, where the Red Delicious apple is grown -  famous for its bright red color and crisp texture. Walking among the blossoming trees or during harvest season is a simple and engaging way to experience the agricultural life of the Piana.

The journey through local flavors continues in historic distilleries, where the traditional Trentino grappa is produced using time‑honored methods such as bain‑marie distillation. Here, visitors can discover intense aromas, family stories, and artisanal knowledge passed down through generations.

The Piana Rotaliana is a place to experience slowly, guided by its fragrances, its products, and the warm hospitality of the producers who preserve the most authentic soul of Trentino.
