The fifth event in the second edition of the music festival ‘Paesaggi sonori - musiche dal mondo in Valle dei Laghi’ (Soundscapes - music from around the world in the Valle dei Laghi).
This special event takes us to the Aegean, Anatolia and further south to Egypt, in a tale of music and dance that combines rebetiko (Greek blues), popular Greek melodies and traditional Ottoman and Arabic songs. Sounds, rhythms, songs and dances from the traditions around the eastern Mediterranean take us on a journey through the cities of the Levant, from Constantinople to Smyrna, from Beirut to Alexandria and Cairo. The “boundless” frontiers of the Mare Nostrum, the cradle of civilisation and beauty, become a fertile substrate of creativity, evoking seductive atmospheres, the flavours of the markets of the East and the smoky atmosphere of the popular venues of the maritime cities. A heartfelt yearning for art to make the human communities of the 21st century permeable, united, even as tragedies of immense proportions and horror unfold just a few steps away from us. Four musicians of extraordinary virtuosity and knowledge and a dancer who grew up with the great masters of the genre will introduce us to the discovery of this magical horizon. An exclusive show followed on Sunday morning, for those who wish, by an experience of dance to admire and experiment with.
