Diving in the history of Tyrol

Tirolo is located on a sunny hill above the valley of Merano, only 6 km away from the beautiful thermal city. The village is surrounded by orchards and vineyards and kissed by the sun and boasts a mild climate, thus being the ideal place for a rest and fun holiday.

Among the most important attractions of the valley Castel Tirolo, hosting the South Tyrolean Museum of History and one of the most important research centers about the history of Tyrol and South Tyrol, and Castel Fontana, with the South Tyrolean Museum of Agriculture and a research center dedicated to Ezra Pound, the famous American writer who lived in the castle in 1958, deserve to be mentioned.
Unfar from Castel Tirolo you will also find the Wild Bird Care Center, saving, healing and reintegrating hurted bird predators. In the center you can visit the aviary and assist to flight demonstrations.

Due to the beauty of the Merano valley, with its blooming vegetation combining Mediterranean and alpine landscape and surrounded by imposing peaks, this area is ideal for beautiful hikes, such as the easy panorama itinerary connecting the village and Castel Tirolo, from which you can admire the earth pyramids, or different paths reaching huts and refuges. There are also more demanding paths, allowing you to discover the wild and unexplored world of the Tessa group: trekking lovers can't miss a hike to the Sopranes lakes, a vast lake group in the height, whose waters feature surprising unique colors, or the numerous itineraries in the height offering breathtaking landscapes, such as the trail to Cima Muta.

Don't forget that Tirolo is an excellent starting point for other wonderful and easier walks, such as the Tappeiner Promenade and the high route Alta Via di Merano, and there are also beautiful nordic walking and mountain bike paths.
