Dolomiti Palaronda Soft Trek is a multi‑day hiking route, ideal for those who want to spend several days exploring the Dolomites of Trentino and the Pale di San Martino. The itinerary crosses the entire Pale di San Martino range from north to south, with manageable daily distances. It offers an immersive experience in an extraordinary alpine environment, on trails without via ferrata sections or technical equipment, suitable for hikers of medium ability.
Day 1: San Martino di Castrozza → Rifugio Rosetta
Start at the Colverde–Rosetta lift station. Follow trail 701 up to the Pale plateau and reach Rifugio Rosetta (or take the Colverde–Rosetta cable car). From the hut, a short and easy 20‑minute walk leads to Cima Rosetta (2,743 m), offering stunning views over San Martino di Castrozza, the Primiero and Vanoi valleys, and Passo Rolle. Dinner and overnight stay at Rifugio Rosetta (2,581 m). Time: 4 h – Ascent: +1,100 m
Day 2: Rifugio Rosetta → Fradusta Glacier → Rifugio Pradidali
After breakfast, leave the hut and follow trail 709 towards the base of the Fradusta Glacier, reached in about 2 hours. Climb the left shoulder to reach the panoramic summit at 2,939 m, located in the heart of the Pale di San Martino. Return to the glacier base, cross Passo di Pradidali Basso, and descend into the spectacular upper Val Pradidali to reach Rifugio Pradidali (2,278 m). Dinner and overnight stay. Time: 3 h – Ascent: +300 m
Day 3: Rifugio Pradidali → Rifugio Treviso/Canali
From Rifugio Pradidali, follow the scenic trail 709 down through Val Pradidali, surrounded by towering vertical walls. Continue into the beautiful Val Canali, with views of Cima Canali, the spires of Cimerlo, and the impressive Sass Maor. Turn left towards the ruins of Malga Pradidali and then Malga Canali, in the heart of the Paneveggio–Pale di San Martino Nature Park. Follow trail 707 to reach Rifugio Canali/Treviso (1,631 m), located directly opposite the Sass d’Ortiga. Dinner and overnight stay. Time: 5 h – Ascent: +300 m – Descent: –1,100 m
Day 4: Rifugio Treviso/Canali → Passo Canali → Rifugio Rosetta → San Martino di Castrozza
To complete the exploration of the plateau, climb trail 707 towards the wide Vallone del Coro. After 2–2.5 hours you reach Passo Canali, and shortly after the eastern edge of the plateau, with breathtaking 360° views over the Dolomites of Trentino and Belluno. Continue along trail 707 for another 2.5 hours to reach Rifugio Rosetta. Descend to San Martino di Castrozza using the Colverde–Rosetta cable car. Time: 7 h – Ascent: +1,100 m
