The ascent to the Cima del Vento (3041 m) is one of the most spectacular and demanding hikes in the Rieserferner Group, recommended only for experienced and well-trained hikers. The route crosses the picturesque Riomolino Valley, with alpine huts and breathtaking views, before reaching the summit, the westernmost three-thousander of the range.
The trail starts from the parking area in the center of Riomolino (1590 m). Following path no. 2, the route climbs through the valley to the Oberwanger Alm (2027 m). From here, path no. 5, marked “Windschar,” ascends steeply over rocky and unstable terrain to the ridge at about 2900 m. Continuing west along the eastern crest leads directly to the summit of the Cima del Vento (3041 m), reached in about 4.5 hours. The descent follows the same route and takes around 3 hours.
This hike is classified as EE (for expert hikers), with exposed and steep sections requiring surefootedness and excellent fitness. The best time to attempt the tour is from June to September, when conditions are most favorable.
How to get there: Riomolino is mainly accessible by car. Alternatively, bus line 450 runs to Gais, village stop, from where you can walk to Riomolino in about one hour.
