Passo Redebus (1453 m) is the starting point of a scenic circular hike that crosses some of the most characteristic landscapes of the Val dei Mocheni, a valley known for its wooden farmsteads, unique cultural traditions and unspoilt alpine environment. The route leads through the evocative Valle dell’Inferno, reaches the two Stramaiolo mountain huts and climbs to the panoramic Passo Polpen (1859 m) before returning to the starting point.
From Passo Redebus to the Valle dell’Inferno
The trail enters a quiet forest of spruce and larch, gradually climbing towards the Valle dell’Inferno (1620 m). The landscape opens onto meadows and isolated farmsteads built in the traditional Mòcheno style, with extensive use of wood and characteristic shingle roofs. This section is ideal for appreciating the rural architecture and peaceful atmosphere of the valley.
The Stramaiolo mountain huts: Lower and Upper
Continuing northwards, the route reaches Malga Stramaiolo Bassa (1678 m), surrounded by wide pastures. The trail then climbs to Malga Stramaiolo Alta (1737 m), set in a more open and panoramic position. Both huts are excellent examples of the Lagorai’s alpine farming tradition and offer a perfect spot for a break.
Climb to Passo Polpen
From the huts, the path rises towards Passo Polpen (1859 m), the highest point of the hike. The view opens over the Lagorai ridge and the surrounding valleys, offering a broad and rewarding panorama.
Return to Passo Redebus
From the pass, the descent follows a circular route back to Passo Redebus, alternating between forest sections, clearings and open viewpoints that keep the hike varied and engaging.
