Excursion to the Stanghe Waterfalls

The Stanghe Waterfalls, located just a few kilometers from Vipiteno in the Isarco Valley, are among the most fascinating natural spectacles in South Tyrol. Here the peaceful Racines stream turns into a raging torrent that, over time, has carved out a gorge unique in Europe, entirely shaped in white marble, now tinged with intense shades of green thanks to vegetation and water.

The hike is rated as easy, suitable for families, children, and even those with little trekking experience. The lower entrance is located in the hamlet of Stanghe, easily accessible by car or bus from Vipiteno and Racines.

The path begins with a flat stretch through the forest, then gradually ascends along suspension bridges, wooden walkways, and safe stairways that cross the torrent several times. Along the way, panoramic terraces offer spectacular views of the waterfalls and narrow canyons. One of the most thrilling spots is the so-called “church”, a vast rock funnel where the water plunges with force, creating striking plays of light and shadow.

The gorge is about 400 meters long and features a succession of waterfalls, rapids, and foaming pools. In some sections, the water drops over 15 meters, enveloping visitors in a mist of spray that makes the experience even more immersive.

The hike ends at the upper exit of the gorge, from where you can return to the starting point by completing the loop. It is recommended to wear sturdy hiking shoes and bring a camera, as every corner offers breathtaking views.

Thanks to its accessibility, natural beauty, and variety of landscapes, the Stanghe Waterfalls are an ideal destination for a family outing or for anyone seeking an exciting adventure without major difficulty.
