A short and evocative trail at the foot of Monte Zugna, where some of the most important dinosaur footprints in Trentino emerge from the rock. The route follows easy, well‑marked paths, ideal for families, nature lovers and geology enthusiasts.
Route description
From the parking area along the Strada degli Artiglieri, near the Damiano Chiesa Cave, a comfortable walk begins on a paved road. At the bend, the route turns left onto a wide dirt path leading toward the Lavini di Marco, an ancient sedimentary environment now rich in fossil evidence.
After a few minutes, you reach the first large rock slab with clearly visible dinosaur footprints on its inclined surface. Continuing along the main trail, you arrive at a second, larger and more impressive group of tracks, where casts up to 10 cm deep and 30–40 cm wide can be observed.
The path then climbs gently before joining the mule track that descends back toward the Damiano Chiesa Cave, closing the loop and returning to the starting point.
