Presule Castle

Presule Castle is one of the most important buildings in the whole Tyrol and is dated back to the period of Maximilian I.

In 1500 Leonardo from Völs transformed the manor into his own residence. Counts of Völs, famous for being lovers of art and hunter of witches, lived there for many centuries. In the Knights Room there are frescoes depicting hunting scenes.

In other rooms of the castle are kept and exhibited armours of the XIX century from all over the world and a picture collection. In the inside courtyard there is a precious loggia with many pointed arches and frescoes. Worth a visit is also the castle powder magazine, an original medieval building.

Castle Presule is the arrival point of the yearly horse riding "Oswald von Wolkenstein", a knight tournament that involves all the localities of the Sciliar plateau the first week of June. The castle is nowadays used in the occasion of weddings and parties, exhibitions, concerts and literary events. Inside, a part of the castle is dedicated to the restaurant.
