Corba Castle

On a hill above Missiano in South Tyrol, stands Corba Castle, surrounded by green vineyards and orchards, with a view of the nearby city of Bolzano.

Corba Castle was built around 1236, starting with the main quadrangular tower, by the Korb family, which was linked to the ministerial lineage of the Counts of Appiano. It passed into the hands of various local families and was left to decay until 1834, when Johann von Putzer had it restored, the structure enlarged and a chapel built.

Acquired by the Tessmann family in 1877, which included the Tyrolean cultural scholar Friedrich von Tessman, who donated his library collection to the province, Corba Castle was sold in 1918 to the Dellago family, who turned it into a hotel.

The castle is still owned by the Dellago family today and is a renowned hotel with a gourmet restaurant.

Hiking enthusiasts should not forget the pleasant "three castles tour", which starts at Castel Corba and takes about two hours to reach Appiano Castle and the ruins of Boymont Castle.
