On a hill above Missiano in South Tyrol, stands Castel Corba, surrounded by the green of vineyards and orchards, overlooking the nearby city of Bolzano.
Castel Corba was built around 1236, starting from its square tower, by the Korb family, who were connected to the ministerial lineage of the Counts of Appiano. After passing through various local families, the castle fell into decay until 1834, when Johann von Putzer restored it, expanded the structure and added a chapel.
In 1877, the castle was acquired by the Tessmann family, which included Friedrich von Tessmann, a renowned scholar of Tyrolean culture who later donated his valuable library collection to the province. In 1918, Castel Corba was sold to the Dellago family, who transformed it into an elegant hotel.
Today, the castle remains in the hands of the Dellago family and is a renowned boutique hotel with a gourmet restaurant, appreciated for its refined atmosphere and panoramic location.
For hiking enthusiasts, Castel Corba is also the starting point of the scenic “Three Castles Walk”, a pleasant route that leads in about two hours to Castel d’Appiano and the evocative ruins of Castel Boymont, crossing vineyards, forests and panoramic viewpoints.
