Lìvia Mattos - Soundscapes

Event date 10-11-2026

Bahian accordionist, singer and composer Lívia Mattos belongs to that generation of Brazilian musicians who know their tradition deeply but feel no obligation to remain inside it. Her world starts from forró, choro and frevo and opens up to improvisation, timbral research and the encounters made during years of travel and touring.

On the new album Verve, Brazil in fact enters into dialogue with other geographies: the Indian singer and flautist Varijashree Venugopal and the Senegalese singer and kora player Senny Camara are guests on a work built precisely on the possibility of letting different roots coexist without flattening them.

At the centre remains the accordion, an instrument historically associated in Brazil with a predominantly male world, which Mattos turns into a field of freedom, risk and play. With her, tuba, euphonium, drums and percussion shape a rhythmic, mobile and unpredictable music, capable of looking at Brazilian popular culture with a fully contemporary curiosity.
