Mercatino di Natale a Trento

Christmas in Trento is pure magic. During the Christmas period Trento becomes the "Christmas City", where lights, colors and Christmas decorations create a unique, fascinating, almost mysterious atmosphere. From the end of November to the beginning of January the characteristic Christmas Market takes place with over 92 wooden houses set up in the historic piazzas Fiera and Battisti. Piazza Duomo also dresses up with a majestic illuminated Christmas tree and nativity scene.

In the typical wooden houses you'll be able to taste typical products of Trentino and admire the artistic and craft work of the exhibitors that with great passion and love exhibit the excellence of their products. Walking among the little houses, getting lost among the inebriating smells and the bright colors while you sip a glass of mulled wine is a must for any visitor. An unforgettable journey to discover Trento; perhaps while looking for that perfect gift.

Also, the volunteering finds space in the Christmas Market, in the three houses of volunteering and solidarity, where each crafted product will make you happy, who will receive it and even a needy person.

The experience is always greener at the market. Many initiatives aimed at promoting environmental sustainability, from the use of seasonal, organic and local products and the correct management of waste to energy efficiency and sustainable mobility. The Market has in fact received "100% clean energy Dolomiti Energia" certification. New this year are the Ecomaps that, in addition to facilitating navigation between the stalls, will also indicate Eco Points.

The many events of the Christmas Market

A comprehensive calendar of cultural events, shows, and rendezvous for adults and children is organized for this time of year. Many events, of which many are free.

Children have their own space at the Market too. During the weekends, under the traditional illuminated tree, Santa's house will open its doors to little ones who will receive candy or a little book as gifts. After meeting Santa, hop into a car on the Christmas train to discover the most hidden corners of the city. There will be workshops realized in a heated and dedicated structure and educational activities that take place in the city's museums, in the municipal library, or in Piazza S. Maria Maggiore. For new mothers, Punto Bimbi will be set up in Piazza Fiera. At the entrance of Palazzo Thun, in Via Belenzani, you will find the small creations of children from schools participating in the "Creative Christmas: Lights, Rycicling and Solidariety" competition, created with recycled material and accompanied by a letter of good wishes to the citizens.

During Christmas you’ll be able to reach Trento from Milan, Lecce, and Bergamo with Special Historic Trains with carriages from the 50s and 60s. Those who reach Trento using the comfortable and characteristic historical trains will find, on their arrival in Piazza Dante, a large panoramic wheel from which you can admire the whole city from a very particular angle and the wooden crib made by the students of the Vocational Training Center Enaip of Villazzano and of the A. Vittoria Art Institute.
