Lake Santa Caterina, widely known as Lake Auronzo, is one of the most evocative places in the Valle d’Ansiei and one of the most beloved destinations in Auronzo di Cadore. Its waters, shifting from emerald green to deep turquoise, stretch for more than two kilometres, creating a harmonious landscape framed by dense forests and iconic Dolomite peaks such as the Tre Cime di Lavaredo and the Cadini di Misurina, both recognised as UNESCO World Heritage sites.
This lake is artificial, created in the 1930s through the damming of the Ansiei stream, yet over time it has become a true natural gem, capable of attracting visitors in every season. In summer, Lake Auronzo turns into a perfect oasis for those seeking a regenerating break immersed in nature. The lakeside cycling and walking path, which runs along almost the entire shoreline, allows visitors to stroll or cycle in a peaceful and panoramic environment.
Its calm waters invite relaxing and enjoyable experiences: you can explore the lake by kayak, rowboat, or pedal boat, enjoying a different perspective of the surrounding mountains.
