On the northern side of Madonna di Campiglio, at just under 1,900 meters of altitude, lies Lake Malghette, an elegant glacial lake set in the heart of the Adamello Brenta Nature Park. It is one of the most beloved destinations for hikers thanks to its peaceful atmosphere and the splendid view of the northern Brenta Group.
Lake Malghette has an elongated shape reminiscent of a pear and immediately stands out for the clarity of its waters. On the clearest days, it is possible to see the bottom up to 10 meters deep, a detail that enhances its alpine charm even more. Around the lake, a frame of firs and larches creates a quiet and relaxing environment.
The lake’s fauna is varied and interesting: Arctic char and minnow are long‑established native species, while brown trout has been introduced over time. Watching the fish move through the transparent waters is one of the most enjoyable experiences for visitors who stop along its shores.
Lake Malghette is a perfect example of an alpine glacial lake. Moraines, polished rocks, and cold waters tell the story of the glacier that once filled these valleys. The surrounding area is rich in peat bogs, wetlands, and flora typical of mid‑high altitudes, making the lake a small treasure chest of biodiversity.
The lake is easily accessible via several trails starting from Malga Zeledria, Campo Carlo Magno, or from the Pradalago lift facilities. It is an ideal destination for those seeking a panoramic walk, a quiet place to relax, or a starting point for more demanding hikes.
