Lake Nambrone

The Lake Nambrone lies on the edge of the Adamello Brenta Nature Park, in one of the most remote and untamed corners of the Presanella Group. Located at an altitude of 2,442 metres, it occupies the floor of a wide glacial cirque, shaped over millennia by the action of ancient glaciers. Its surface, covering about 35,000 square metres, reflects a stark and captivating landscape dominated by huge erratic boulders and rocky slopes almost devoid of vegetation.

The lake’s waters are remarkably clear, allowing the bottom to be seen even from a distance. The rugged, solitary shoreline conveys a strong sense of isolation: only the wind or the whistle of marmots breaks the silence, and it is not unusual to spot chamois or a golden eagle gliding above the cirque.

Reaching Lake Nambrone requires good fitness and a steady step. From the bottom of the Val Nambrone, a long and solitary route leads to Passo Nambrone in about three hours. From there, a faint and at times exposed path reaches the lake in roughly thirty minutes. The route is recommended for experienced hikers, due to its length and the nature of the terrain, which is often unstable and not always clearly marked.

Passo Nambrone can also be reached from other high‑altitude routes, such as those coming from Lago Gelato and Lago Serodoli, along the well‑known Five Lakes Tour. This connection allows Lake Nambrone to be included in longer, panoramic traverses, ideal for exploring the entire glacial plateau of the Presanella.
