Through the plateau of the Pale di San Martino

A spectacular itinerary crossing the vast plateau of the Pale di San Martino, among residual glaciers, karst sinkholes, and sweeping views over the most imposing peaks of the group. A classic route, ideal for those who want to experience the essence of this unique Dolomite environment.

From Rifugio Rosetta to Passo Pradidali Basso

From Rifugio Pedrotti alla Rosetta (2581 m), head east along trail 709, marked with red signs. In about 40 minutes you reach Passo Pradidali Basso (2655 m), a panoramic viewpoint and crossroads for Rifugio Pradidali.

Towards Passo della Fradusta and the glacier

Continue on trail 708, which climbs over a rocky ridge and leads to Passo della Fradusta (2716 m). From here, the view opens onto the Fradusta Glacier, a wide glacial basin that is easy to cross, paying attention to exposed ice during the warmest weeks.

From the next ridge, you can climb to Cima Fradusta, a recommended detour for its extraordinary panorama.

The great sinkholes and Passo Canali

The route continues toward the large sinkhole of Foch de Sora, descending into it and then climbing up toward Foch de Sot. After crossing another basin, you reach Passo Canali (2469 m), a natural balcony overlooking the crags of the Southern Chain of the Pale.

Descent into Val Canali and arrival at Rifugio Treviso

From the pass, take trail 707, which descends through scree, meadows, and rocky sections, skirting the Cime dell’Alberghet and the Coro. Ignoring the left-hand forks, the trail gradually drops below Cima Sant’Anna, crosses a debris field, and finally enters the forest. In a few minutes you reach Rifugio Treviso, one of the most characteristic huts in Val Canali.

Variant via Forcella del Miel

After about 30 minutes on trail 709, you can turn left onto trail 707, crossing the plateau in a wilder environment. You pass near the junction for Col di Prà (766) and reach the edge of the plateau, with breathtaking views of the Agnèr, Sass de le Caore, and Croda Granda. The trail then bends southeast to Forcella del Miel (2520 m), reconnecting with the main route at Passo Canali.
