Experiencing the Dolomites at their best means tackling one of the most spectacular routes in the area: the Traverse of the Sella Group, a high‑altitude itinerary that connects Passo Pordoi with Colfosco, crossing rocky landscapes, lunar plateaus and unforgettable panoramic viewpoints.
This hike requires a steady step, good fitness and stable weather conditions, but rewards you with breathtaking views of Piz Boè, the Cresta Strenta and the impressive natural architecture of the Sella Group.
The route
The starting point is Passo Pordoi (2,239 m), the historic mountain pass linking Arabba with Val di Fassa. From here, you can quickly gain altitude thanks to the Sass Pordoi cable car, which rises to almost 3,000 metres and opens the door to one of the most iconic landscapes in the Dolomites.
The trail continues towards the Vallon, reaches the summit of Piz Boè – the most accessible “3000er” in the Dolomites – and follows the Cresta Strenta, a panoramic ridge overlooking the entire Sella plateau.
The descent takes place through the spectacular Val Mesdì, a natural corridor that leads down to Colfosco, in the heart of Alta Badia.
