This easy and charming route connects Fiè di Sopra with the magnificent Castel Prösels, crossing unspoilt rural landscapes, traditional farmsteads and meadows rich in seasonal blooms. It is an ideal walk from May to September, perfect for anyone seeking an authentic experience at the foot of the Sciliar.
Route Description
From Fiè di Sopra, the path begins next to the historic Hotel Heubad, known for its traditional hay baths. Follow the road for a short stretch until trail no. 6 branches off to the right, leading across gently sloping meadows with open views of the Sciliar massif.
The route continues slightly across the hillside, passes an old farmhouse, and descends to a picturesque wooden bridge over the Rio di Fiè. Immediately after the bridge, turn right to reach a fork: continue along trail no. 6, first on level ground and then gently uphill.
The path crosses the road connecting Umes and Prösels, but you simply cross it and continue along the wide meadows that characterise this area. In spring and early summer, the fields are coloured by meadow sage and Crepis aurea, while in autumn the distinctive autumn crocus appears, making the landscape even more enchanting.
The final stretch leads directly to the village of Prösels, where the impressive Castel Prösels stands — one of South Tyrol’s most beautiful and best‑preserved castles.
