The route starts at Rifugio Fedare (2000 m) and follows CAI trail 464, which immediately descends toward the characteristic hay barns of Pale, a small rural cluster perfectly set within the alpine landscape. From here, the trail continues across the slope on a typical high‑altitude grassy hillside, where the vegetation becomes sparse and the view opens onto the surrounding peaks.
After a short stretch through the woods, the path enters the evocative Val Ciarnara, a quiet, shaded valley that marks the beginning of the gentler and more relaxing part of the hike.
The “Triol dei Siori”: nature and tradition
The central section of the route corresponds to the true Triol dei Siori, a historic trail that descends through the forest beyond Val Ciarnara and reaches Fontana Benedetta, a traditional water source much loved by hikers. The descent continues along a mule track that crosses the Rio Palata and leads to the first junction: keeping left, you reach the houses of Frena, a small settlement in the Val Fiorentina.
Arrival in Pian, in the heart of Val Fiorentina
The final stretch leads directly to the Val Fiorentina state road, where the hamlet of Pian marks the end of the excursion. Here the landscape opens once again, offering wide views of the mountains surrounding Colle Santa Lucia.
