This challenging snowshoe hike, about 13 km long with nearly 1,000 metres of elevation gain, starts from the parking area of the Rifugio Piano Fiscalina, in the heart of the beautiful Val Fiscalina, just a few minutes from Sesto. It is a winter itinerary loved by experienced hikers, offering some of the most iconic views in the Dolomites.
From the parking area, follow the packed trail leading to Rifugio Fondovalle, surrounded by a peaceful landscape of snowy forests and towering Dolomite walls. Here, turn right into Val Sassovecchio, following trail no. 102, which retraces the summer route to Rifugio Locatelli (closed in winter).
Once you leave the forest, the scenery opens up dramatically: a breathtaking 360° panorama unfolds over the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, Monte Paterno and the surrounding peaks. The ascent continues steadily until you reach Sasso di Sesto (2513 m) or, slightly lower, the area around Rifugio Locatelli (2450 m). The return follows the same route, allowing you to enjoy once again the silence and beauty of Val Fiscalina.
