Lake of Landro

Lake Landro lies at the bottom of the Val di Landro, just before the valley branches towards Misurina and Cimabanche, about 20 km from Cortina d’Ampezzo.

Hiking the Landro Lake

  • The “Pioneers’ Trail” | 2.45–3.30 hours – trail no. 6 (for experienced hikers; strong historical interest)
From Bar Floralpina, cross a sparse woodland to reach the start of the trail. The ascent from the lake to the summit of Monte Piana is strenuous and leads to the mid‑station of the old military cableway, then continues steeply up a north‑eastern gully. The quickest descent is along trail no. 103, which leads into Val Rinbianco.

  • From Val di Landro to Rifugio Bosi | 3 hours
From Bar Floralpina, follow trail no. 102 as it leads into the Val della Rienza and reaches Val Rinbianco. A short detour to the San Marco spur, crossing the Rienza, is recommended. Return to the main trail and follow trail no. 103 to the junction, where a path branches right towards Forcella dei Castrade. Stay on the main route: after about 30 minutes you reach the Rinbianco alpine hut. From here, continue on trail no. 6.

  • Climb to Monte Piana via the “Tourist Trail” | 3 hours (for experienced hikers)
From Carbonin, follow the road towards Misurina and take the small road on the left that reaches the mountain slope. From here, a trail climbs up to the summit of Monte Piana.

  • Climb to Pratopiazza and Picco di Vallandro
Pratopiazza is a broad alpine plateau between Picco di Vallandro and the Croda Rossa Group, at the head of the Val di Stolla. It is reached from Ponticello in the Braies Valley. From Rifugio Vallandro or from Pratopiazza, cross the entire DĂŒrrenstein plateau and turn right to reach the summit, marked by a cross.
  • Climb to Col Rotondo from Pratopiazza
From Pratopiazza, head south to a ridge where a well‑marked path leads to the summit of Col Rotondo, offering sweeping views of the Cristallo Group.
