The route from Misurina to the Rifugio Auronzo (2320 m) through Val Longeres is one of the most authentic ways to reach the famous viewpoint overlooking the Tre Cime di Lavaredo. This historic trail follows an old military mule track and offers a quiet, natural alternative to the toll road, immersing hikers in a peaceful and scenic environment.
1) From Misurina to the start of Val Longeres
Just before the toll booth on the road to Rifugio Auronzo, a historic mule track branches off to the right. The path climbs steadily among mountain pines and larches, offering early views of Lake Misurina and the Cristallo Group.
2) Through Val Longeres
The trail enters the wide, open Val Longeres, beneath the southern walls of the Tre Cime. The terrain is regular and well‑defined, with a series of switchbacks that make the ascent steady and manageable. Even in peak season, this valley remains quiet and far less crowded than the road.
3) Arrival at Rifugio Auronzo
The final stretch joins the paved road just below the refuge. In a few minutes you reach Rifugio Auronzo, the starting point of the famous loop around the Tre Cime di Lavaredo and one of the most iconic viewpoints in the Dolomites.
