Four Churches Trail

A themed hiking route that combines sacred art, alpine nature, and historical memory, crossing the diverse landscapes of the Puster Valley along the mid-mountain ridge. The trail connects four historic churches — Saint Valentine in Grimaldo, Saint Cyriacus in Falzes, Saint Nicholas in Issengo, and Saint John in Hasenried — which serve as spiritual and architectural landmarks clearly visible along the way.

Starting point: Grimaldo The trail begins at the church parking lot in Grimaldo. The first stop is the Church of Saint Valentine, a gem of late Gothic architecture in the Puster Valley, featuring frescoes from 1434 and a serene atmosphere that invites contemplation.

Falzes (trail markers 7 and 17A) The route continues to the center of Falzes, where the parish church of Saint Cyriacus and the Holy Family stands. The main altarpiece depicts the martyrdom of Saint Cyriacus, a Roman deacon persecuted under Emperor Diocletian, painted by Karl von Henrici.

Issengo (trail 7) The path leads to the Church of Saint Nicholas, which outwardly displays Gothic style, but reveals Baroque decorations inside. Nearby lies the Issengo pond, ideal for a refreshing break.

Hasenried (trails 5 and 1) Climbing from Molini, you reach Hasenried, once a popular pilgrimage site due to a spring believed to have healing powers. The Church of Saint John the Baptist, built in a simple late Gothic style, is accessible only upon request. Next to it, a chapel that is always open offers a space for reflection.

Return: Falzes – Grimaldo (Pfaffensteig, trails 7B and 17A) From Hasenried, you can return to Falzes via the Pfaffensteig trail, and from there back to Grimaldo. Alternatively, bus line 421 from Molini or Issengo provides a convenient return option.
