Vie Ferrate Cortina d'Ampezzo

The Anello del Sorapiss is one of the most spectacular and complete routes in the Ampezzo Dolomites: a two‑day circular itinerary that combines equipped sections, airy ledges and wild alpine scenery, crossing three historic via ferratas — Berti, Minazio and Vandelli — at the foot of the imposing Sorapiss walls. The highest point reaches 2670 m, at the Forcella del Bivacco Slataper, an extraordinary panoramic viewpoint.

The route usually starts from Passo Tre Croci (1805 m), easily accessible along the SS 48. Alternatively, it is possible to begin in Cortina d’Ampezzo (1210 m), adding a longer approach.

The most practical overnight stop for the classic loop is the Bivacco Slataper, which allows the itinerary to be divided into two well‑balanced stages.

Route Description

Passo Tre Croci → Forcella Sora la Cengia del Banco
From the pass, follow trail 215, which climbs steadily to the Forcella Sora la Cengia del Banco. The landscape quickly becomes more rugged, with wide views over the Croda Marcora.

Crossing the Cengia del Banco
The route traverses the entire western face of the Croda Marcora along the famous ledge, an exposed and spectacular section that leads into the more technical part of the Ferrata Berti.

Ferrata Berti → Forcella del Bivacco Slataper (2670 m)
The ferrata continues through ladders, exposed passages and equipped sections up to the saddle, where the Bivacco Slataper stands — a natural balcony over the Ampezzo Dolomites.

Descent via the Minazio Path
From the bivouac, take the equipped Minazio Path, which crosses the eastern flank of the Sorapiss in a wilder and more isolated environment.

Ferrata Vandelli → Rifugio Vandelli
The final part of the loop follows the Ferrata Vandelli, leading to Rifugio Vandelli and the famous Lake Sorapiss, before returning toward Passo Tre Croci.

Duration and Difficulty

The Anello del Sorapiss requires two full days, with significant elevation gain and technical sections that demand experience on via ferratas, sure footing and good physical condition.
