Primiero Dolomiti Marathon – 42K is a trail running experience that crosses some of the most iconic landscapes of the Trentino Dolomites. It’s a demanding yet spectacular route, linking ancient forests, high‑altitude pastures and alpine villages before reaching the finish line in the heart of Fiera di Primiero.
From Val Canali to the views of San Martino di Castrozza
The race starts at Villa Welsperg, inside the Paneveggio – Pale di San Martino Nature Park. From here, the trail climbs gently towards Piereni, crossing meadows and clearings that open up to breathtaking views of the Pale. After passing Strine, Poline and Dagnoli, the terrain becomes more natural: the asphalt gives way to forest roads and mountain paths leading to Prati Ronzi and Malga Val di Roda, natural balconies overlooking San Martino.
Through San Martino di Castrozza
Once in the renowned alpine resort, the route crosses the village and continues northwest, entering an increasingly mountainous environment. The ascent towards Malga Crel marks one of the most anticipated sections of the marathon.
Lake Calaita: the jewel of Primiero
Around the 25th kilometre, Lake Calaita appears—one of the most enchanting places in the valley, framed by the peaks of the Lagorai. After skirting the lake and the small hamlet nearby, the long descent towards the valley floor begins.
From the Via Nova to the finish line in Fiera di Primiero
The trail continues towards Passo Gobbera, where it joins the historic Via Nova, an ancient Roman road that descends with a gentle gradient all the way to the centre of Fiera di Primiero, the official finish area.
