Primiero Dolomiti Marathon – 26K

This medium‑length route connects San Martino di Castrozza with Fiera di Primiero, crossing some of the most scenic landscapes in the area: the pastures of Malga Crel, the peaceful Lake Calaita and the forests descending towards Passo Gobbera and the historic Via Nova. A varied itinerary, ideal for those who enjoy walking immersed in the authentic nature of the Primiero valley.

From the centre of San Martino to the pastures of Malga Crel

The hike starts in the centre of San Martino di Castrozza and heads north through the village. The route follows a wide, undulating forest road that winds for several kilometres through clearings and shaded woodland. Near Malga Crel, the landscape opens up to broad meadows and views of the Pale di San Martino.

The ascent to Lake Calaita

Leaving the forest road, a steady uphill path leads to the plateau above the lake. Here you cross a large grassy field, often dotted with grazing cows and local wildlife — a scenic stretch that introduces the heart of the hike.

Lake Calaita: a gem of the Primiero

Lake Calaita (1620 m) is one of the most iconic spots in the valley: a tranquil alpine lake framed by forests and offering a privileged view of the Pale. It’s the perfect place for a break, photos and moments of relaxation.

Towards Passo Gobbera and the Via Nova

After passing the lake, the route continues along trails and forest roads towards Passo Gobbera, crossing quiet woods and panoramic stretches. From here, the historic Via Nova — an ancient mule track — descends gently towards Fiera di Primiero, passing farmsteads, clearings and views over the valley.

Arrival in Fiera di Primiero

The itinerary ends in the centre of Fiera di Primiero after a long and pleasant descent. This section also forms the final part of the Primiero Dolomiti Marathon.
