Vanoi Alpine Huts Loop

An all‑round loop immersed in the wild heart of the Lagorai, winding between panoramic mountain huts, high‑altitude forest roads and technical descents through the woods of Val Vanoi. A varied and complete route, ideal for well‑trained bikers looking for an authentic experience between Caoria, the Laghetti area and the historic Fossernica alpine huts.

Starting point: Canal San Bovo → Caoria

From Canal San Bovo, ride towards Caoria along the main road. At the junction for Passo Brocon, continue straight and, after about 1 km, turn right at the Giaroni junction, staying on asphalt until the village. After crossing the bridge over the Vanoi stream, the road climbs towards Rifugio Refavaie, still on paved surface.

Climb towards Malga Coppola

Before reaching the refuge, near the bridge, keep left following the signs for Passo 5 Croci. The gravel road continues for about 2.5 km until the junction for Malga Coppola, where you turn right. The climb becomes steeper but steady, leading near Rifugio Malga Coppola di Sotto.

On the right, a barrier marks the turn‑off towards the Laghetti area: continue on the gravel road as the landscape opens up and becomes increasingly scenic.

Laghetti area and Lago Nero

The forest road leads close to Lago Nero, where the route joins another gravel track. Descend towards Malga Laghetti, crossing a panoramic and characteristic section of the Lagorai.

At the second junction, keep left and follow a new uphill gravel road: this is also the first possible shortcut back to the valley.

After about 1.5 km, near a right‑hand hairpin bend, look for the start of a small trail: here you proceed on foot for about 50 metres, first uphill and then briefly downhill. Back on the bike, a more technical stretch leads to a forest road descending to Malga Coldosè.

Towards the Fossernica alpine huts

After Coldosè, another junction appears (second possible return option). Keep left and follow the steady climb leading first to Malga Fossernica di Dentro and then to Malga Fossernica di Fuori, one of the most panoramic points of the entire itinerary.

Long descent towards Valzanca and Caoria

From Fossernica, a long descent of over 6 km begins—fast and enjoyable, but to be followed carefully without leaving the main track. At the Valzanca junction, descend right towards Ponte Stel and continue down the valley.

A further junction on the right allows you to take the old mule track that leads directly back to Caoria: a beautiful but technical section, especially in wet conditions. Alternatively, you can stay on the main road.

From Caoria, return to Canal San Bovo along the paved road.
