From the valley hamlets to the open meadows above the tree line, passing through mountain huts, forest roads and ancient mule tracks, this MTB itinerary explores the entire natural amphitheatre of the Pale di San Martino, before descending comfortably back to the Primiero villages. A complete loop: demanding, but incredibly rewarding.
Start: Pieve – Via Nova
From the centre of Pieve, follow the historic Via Nova, a gentle climb through the woods. After about 3.5 km you reach the junction for Camp: turn right and begin the paved ascent towards the hamlet.
At the fourth hairpin, in Segnana, turn left and follow a short paved stretch before joining the Rampikissima trail. A little further on, the route meets the Camp road again and descends briefly to the junction with the Bedolè basso road.
Towards Dismoni and Malga Crel
Continue to Dismoni, the first option for returning to the valley. At the junction, turn right onto a forest road that bends left and leads towards Crel.
After the next junction, continue straight to reach Malga Crel, where the view opens onto the Pale. A gentle climb leads towards San Martino di Castrozza, followed by a descent ending at km 19.3. Here you can return to the valley via San Martino or continue towards Tognola.
From Tognola to Malga Ces and Orti Forestali
Follow the paved road to Malga Ces, a panoramic spot ideal for a break. After 300 m, turn right onto the new Orti Forestali forest road, which you follow until km 23.3.
A technical descent then leads to Malga Fosse di Sotto: the trail is only partially rideable but very scenic. Continue along an old track to San Martino di Castrozza, the third option for returning to the valley.
San Martino → Val di Roda → Val della Vecchia
From the bridge over the Cismon (junction Drei Tannen), continue along Via Passo Rolle, using the pedestrian area. Near the restaurant Da Meto, turn right and climb the Val di Roda road, joining trail 724 – Ippovia.
After a stretch of mule track, return to the forest road leading to Val della Vecchia. Keep right on a trail for about 1 km before rejoining the dirt road.
Ronzi → Petina → Strine → Piereni
Around km 30, at the Ronzi junction, descend along the forest road to the Prati Ronzi, then continue on asphalt towards Petina. At km 35.5 you reach the Petina junction, the fourth option for returning to the valley. Continue instead towards Strine, Poline and Piereni, with rolling terrain and panoramic stretches.
Return to Tonadico and Fiera di Primiero
A paved descent leads to Tonadico. In the village centre, take care on a steep downhill section that crosses the Passo Cereda road near the Lanterna Verde bridge. From here, follow the Canali stream to reach Fiera di Primiero, the end of the route.
Variants and return options
The itinerary offers four early‑return points, ideal for:
- shortening the route
- splitting it over several days
- combining the ascent with public transport or lifts
