Ski mountaineering itinerary: Cima Valcigolera

The ascent to Cima Valcigolera is one of the classic ski‑mountaineering routes in the San Martino di Castrozza area: a medium‑difficulty itinerary, ideal for experienced skiers looking for a complete traverse through forests, saddles and wide snow-covered slopes. The tour starts from Passo Rolle (1905 m), one of the most iconic panoramic points in the Dolomites.

This route requires standard ski‑mountaineering equipment — avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe — and stable snow conditions. From the summit, the descent through the Cadin Couloir offers one of the most scenic lines in the area, ending directly on the slopes of the Passo Rolle ski resort.

Route: panoramic ascent between Colbricon and Valcigolera

From Passo Rolle, head towards the Paradiso chairlift area and follow the trail marked 14–348. The first section leads to Rifugio Colbricon, then continues towards the enchanting Colbricon Lakes, nestled among forests and Dolomite slopes.

Skirting the southern shore of the lake, the route climbs to Passo Colbricon, from where you descend about thirty metres to reach the Ces ski slope. After crossing it, put the skins back on and climb the slope leading into the suspended valley that ends at the Forcella di Valcigolera.

From the saddle, the track follows the wide, panoramic ridge all the way to Cima Valcigolera, a privileged viewpoint over the Pale di San Martino and the surrounding valleys.

Descent: the Cadin Couloir to Malga Valcigolera

For the descent, enter the Cadin Couloir, a direct and enjoyable line that reconnects lower down with the ski slopes. From here, continue towards Malga Valcigolera and, if desired, all the way to San Martino di Castrozza, completing a highly rewarding traverse.
