The winter hike to Rifugio Chiusa al Campaccio (Klausner Hütte) is a charming itinerary in the Sarntal Alps, above Lazfons. It starts from the Kühhof parking lot and follows trail no. 1 up to the hut. The route is about 3.4 km long, with 370 m of elevation gain, and can be completed in less than 2 hours, offering splendid views of the Dolomites. The hut is open in winter during the Christmas holidays and on weekends.
Itinerary Details
- Start: Kühhof parking lot (1573 m), accessible by car from Chiusa/Klausen via Velturno/Feldthurns and Latzfons.
- Trail: Follow trail no. 1, well-marked and groomed even in winter.
- Arrival: Rifugio Chiusa al Campaccio (1920 m), located on the southern slope of Cima San Lorenzo.
Along the ascent, the landscape opens onto:
- Dolomites: Odle, Puez, Sella, Sassolungo, Sciliar, Catinaccio.
- Sarntal Alps: Pine and stone pine forests framing the hut.
- Westward views: Ortles‑Cevedale, Presanella, Brenta Dolomites, and Stubai Alps.
The route is also ideal for snowshoeing or ski touring, thanks to the groomed snow and wide-open panoramas.
