The Valsugana Cycle Path is one of the most scenic cycling routes in Northern Italy. It starts in the hamlet of Valcanover, overlooking Lake Caldonazzo in the municipality of Pergine Valsugana, and reaches the Veneto border at Pianello Vallon, before continuing on to Bassano del Grappa. In total, it offers about 80 km of cycling immersed in the nature, history, and culture of the valley.
The route is almost entirely paved, with an average gradient of 0.4% and a maximum gradient of around 16%, making it ideal for families and leisure cyclists. The average riding time ranges from 6 to 7 hours, depending on pace and stops.
After leaving Valcanover, the cycle path runs along Lake Caldonazzo with a panoramic cantilevered section, perfect for admiring the mountains reflected in the water. It then passes through Calceranica al Lago and Caldonazzo, offering lake views and lively historic centres.
Beyond the villages, the route opens into the Valsugana countryside and connects to the cycle path leading to Levico Terme, known for its thermal baths and century‑old park.
From here, the path follows the Brenta River, crossing an agricultural landscape typical of the valley floor. At Novaledo, it diverts onto the Destra Brenta Cycle Route, before rejoining the main path after the narrow passage of Marter.
The ride continues toward the plain of Borgo Valsugana, where it is worth stopping to visit the historic centre and the Roncegno wetland biotope. The route then reaches Ospedaletto, Grigno, and finally Pianello Vallon, the last Trentino stop before entering Veneto.
Those wishing to complete the full itinerary can continue to Bassano del Grappa, reaching the total distance of 80 km.
