The Maia Waalweg is a simple yet charming trail that winds through fresh woods and apple orchards, offering long shaded stretches that make it particularly pleasant on warm summer days. Along the way, you can enjoy an authentic atmosphere, surrounded by lush nature and views that reflect the agricultural traditions of the area.
The hike starts in the center of Scena, where, after passing through the flower-adorned heart of the village, you follow Via Katnau and then Via Leiter. This road passes by the characteristic Innerleiterhof farm and leads to the Maia irrigation channel.
The trail, which runs alongside the ancient canal, heads north on an almost flat route, alternating between woodland sections and open views. It crosses the Schnuggenbach stream, passes the Petaunerhof farm, and reaches Via Rifiano, which gently leads back to the center of Scena.
