Historical itinerary through the streets of Brunico

Walking through Brunico means immersing yourself in a town that blends alpine charm with medieval heritage. Awarded for its excellent quality of life, Brunico offers a historical route winding among churches, palaces, and ancient city gates.

The itinerary begins at the Church of the Ursulines, in front of Tschurtschenthaler Square, and follows trail no. 22 to the War Cemetery, a place of memory and reflection. From here, you can reach the imposing Brunico Castle, either by crossing the suspension bridge or continuing along the same trail. The episcopal castle, perched on a hill, still overlooks the historic center and today houses the Messner Mountain Museum RIPA, dedicated to mountain cultures worldwide.

Descending from the hill, the path leads to the Church of St. Catherine and into the lively Central Street. Passing through the Rain Gate (also called Bruno Gate), you enter Upper Ragen Street, dominated by the impressive Sternbach Palace. Continuing east, you reach the Parish Church, while returning along the same way brings you to the Rienza Gate. Crossing the bridge, you arrive in Bruder Willram Street, home to the Eck Civic Museum.

Nearby, in Capuchin Square, stand the Holy Spirit Church and the Capuchin Monastery, important testimonies of spirituality and art. The final stage of the itinerary leads towards the pedestrian zone of the Bastioni, ending at the San Floriano Gate, the ancient entrance to the town.
