Arco Castle is the true jewel of the city. The recent restoration has brought it back to its former splendour, giving new life to the history of the Counts of Arco, its historic owners, and to the imposing Torre Grande.
Among the highlights are the richly frescoed Games Room and the terrace overlooking the town of Arco.
Inside the Games Room you can admire beautiful frescoes in the International Gothic style, dating from the late 14th to the early 15th century. They depict ladies playing dice or chess, St George and the dragon, battle scenes and the knighting of a warrior.
Equally charming is the walk through the olive groves leading from the centre of Arco to the foot of the castle, along an uphill path of about 15 minutes. The castle, accessible only on foot, dominates the plain of the lower Sarca River as far as Lake Garda and offers visitors a striking view over the surrounding valleys.
Arco Castle is open to visitors and in summer provides a picturesque setting for music and literary events.
