Dinosaurs are back in Auronzo: “At the Dawn of the Three Peaks”

22 May 2025

Starting Saturday, June 14, Auronzo di Cadore becomes the stage for “At the Dawn of the Three Peaks – Dinosaurs”, an outdoor and indoor exhibition that transforms the area into a breathtaking time-travel experience until September 7.

From the shores of Lake Santa Caterina to the majestic Three Peaks of Lavaredo, visitors will encounter lifelike reconstructions of dinosaurs such as the fearsome T-Rex, the enormous Diplodocus, and the Italian Saltriovenator. These full-scale models will be placed along scenic routes and near iconic mountain refuges, creating a unique blend of natural beauty and prehistory.

The Palazzo Corte Metto Museum will host the scientific and educational heart of the exhibition. Here, real dinosaur fossils from the Bruno Berti Collection and on loan from the Ligabue Foundation (usually kept at the exceptional “Roots of Life” Museum in Danta di Cadore) will be on display. A visit to that museum is also highly recommended.

The museum will feature updated naturalistic rooms connecting today’s birds of the Three Peaks with their dinosaur ancestors. Video installations will also analyze scenes from famous movies like Jurassic Park and Jurassic World Dominion—some of which were filmed in Auronzo—distinguishing scientific truth from cinematic fiction.

With interactive exhibits, true fossils, and a spectacular mountain setting, this is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for families, kids, and dinosaur lovers to explore the prehistoric world in the heart of the Dolomites.
