Val Canali is preparing to welcome spring with a special event celebrating the beauty of nature, local traditions and the exchange of knowledge. On Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 May, the suggestive valley at the foot of the majestic Pale di San Martino mountains will open to the public, offering a unique opportunity to discover (or rediscover) it at the height of its spring splendour.
A weekend designed to experience nature, share moments of conviviality, and get closer to old-fashioned crafts and games, in an authentic and breathtaking setting.
The event will kick off on Saturday 10 May, from 4 to 7 p.m., with an afternoon of spring scents and colours: a guided walk through flowering meadows and woods will take visitors to the suggestive ruins of Castel Pietra, in the company of the Aquile di San Martino Alpine Guides. The itinerary also includes a stop at the Tabià dele Cesurette, with experts from the Paneveggio Pale di San Martino Nature Park, and will end with a delicious zero-kilometre aperitif, offered by the valley's restaurateurs.
The day of Sunday 11 May will be entirely dedicated to Spring in Val Canali, organised by the Paneveggio Pale di San Martino Nature Park in collaboration with local farmers and operators. The day will offer activities for young and old: creative workshops, carriage rides, pony rides and guided excursions around Villa Welsperg, to experience nature up close and learn to know and respect it.
There will be initiatives such as ‘Who passed by here?’, an activity to discover animal tracks, or workshops dedicated to pollen, pollinators, trees and scented resins. Participation in the day is free, but with a one-day ticket (€5.00 from 8 years of age and up) it will be possible to access breakfast, an organised activity (subject to availability), a carriage ride and a short pony ride.
For lunch, it will be possible to choose from menus offered by restaurants, farmhouses and huts in the valley, all ready to delight palates with dishes based on typical and seasonal products. Alternatively, a refreshment point at Villa Welsperg will be open until 12.30 p.m. with sandwiches, cakes and quick snacks by the Val Canali restaurateurs.
The afternoon will continue with activities spread among the various accommodation facilities in the valley: from 2.30 p.m., visitors will be able to try their hand at cheese-making, butter and dumpling preparation workshops, try archery, relax with a Pilates session or listen to the melodies of the Vanoi Choir.
In the name of sustainability and respect for the environment, Val Canali will be closed to private traffic on Sunday morning from 9.30 a.m. to 12 noon. It will only be possible to access it on foot, by bike or with the shuttle service from Fiera di Primiero (uphill runs at 9:00, 10:00, 11:00; return at 14:00 and 16:00).
